GUARDIANS
The intangible elements within me shape who I am, resonating with the exterior of my shell. As these internal aspects expand, they create a sense of place and time, weaving together the past, present, and future. This form emerges from my experiences across different cultures and my longing to belong. As circumstances shift around me, the urge to construct a protective shell becomes increasingly evident and expressive. I use this form as a window to articulate and release my emotions while seeking guidance. In shaping these forms, I find that they shape me in return.
I see my work as the creation of artifacts—objects that draw from my personal history and the archives I have collected and created. We live in a world where nothing is static—culturally, traditionally, or historically. This fluidity allows me to both embrace and challenge the norms of tradition. In this perpetual moment of change, I validate my journey through clay, which serves as a record keeper of my evolving identity.
In ceramics, the philosophy extends beyond spatial relationships to include the marks left by both the maker and the material itself. During my time in Korea, I immersed myself in traditional Korean pottery, honing culturally specific forms and textures. Yet I allow my connection to this cultural heritage to evolve, enabling me to witness how curiosity transforms my work.
Each step in my process is a conscious act—a negotiation between where the form is headed and how I wish to shape it. Through this dialogue with clay, I document my journey with humility, paying close attention to its subtle materiality. Clay demands presence; it asks for care, patience, and responsiveness. For me, it is not merely a medium but a collaborator in expressing the interplay between identity, tradition, and transformation. This version refines your ideas for better readability while preserving your thoughtful reflections on identity, tradition, and your artistic process.
